Experience triumphs in end of year table tennis showdown
The tension had been building all week, the cheese and biscuits and mince pies cleared away and the table tennis table restored to its rightful place in Greenheys reception ahead of the big tournament. The crowds started to gather (the old geezer from next door eating his lunch, 2 random students and some lad that looked like he had got lost) as the i2i gladiators assembled. The draw was made the day before; 8 of i2i’s finest randomly drawn from the hat by the gaffer pitched Clayton V Walker in the first of the 4 quarter finals. Walker obviously spent…
Launch of the Prospector™
i2i are pleased to announce the launch of our newest an most innovative pig to date - Prospector™. Prospector is designed to be launched and recovered through a conventional pigging valve, which can potentially save pipeline operators many thousands of $.

Inspecting un-piggable pipelines
Working with a pipeline operator to inspect historically un-piggable pipelines. We have had some great success with the new launchers & receivers, which were only 4.5ft long, and allowed us access to some very tight dig sites. The Pioneer pigs were blown through the line in a controlled manner with an average speed of 2 m/s. The Pioneer pigs did a good job of cleaning the lines while inspecting for internal defects at the same time. A great start in making un-piggable pipelines piggable.
2″ cement lined pipe inspection
2" cement lined pipe is in fact only 1.5" ID and then throw in some 1.5D bends for good measure and you have a real challenge on your hands. Especially if the pressure rating is around 80 bar. Onshore gathering lines in the US will be a big market in the coming years due to the recent change in PHMSA regulations. i2i will have a beta out in Q1 2017 so look forward to the first application.
Rebranding our technology products
i2i have recently rebranded their Smart Pigs from Discovery to Pioneer due to a trade mark concern raised by a company deploying a non intrusive NDT technology. i2i have taken this opportunity to create a number of new product brands that will allow the company to target specific market applications. Patrol, Pioneer, SmartFoam, Prospector and Pipeception will be the main technology brands moving forward.
We are recruiting
Due to steady growth i2i are now recruiting electronics and mechanical design engineers. If you live in or near Manchester, have good electronics and / or CAD skills, and looking to join a fast growing company with good salary packages then please get in touch.
Wax / Scale / Debris mapping R&D project
Collected some debris samples from the Swiss based Reinhart the other week to use in our ongoing R&D project to categorise and map debris within the pipeline. Thanks to Robert and his team for the loan of the samples.
4″ – 24″. The family is growing
Just to show the contrast between the 2 sizes of pressure vessel. You can fit a double decker bus in the 24" body. The 4" pig is a little more challenging but happy to say our 13 sensor unit is heading to the US this week.
Do you need specialist personnel ?
Have a look at the picture below. On the left is a Discovery tool, on the right a conventional cleaning tool. The Discovery tool can detect internal corrosion, cracking, and a host of flow assurance and production parameters. The cleaning tool cleans. They can now both be deployed by the same local technician. Is there any need for specialist personnel to be on site in the long term ??
4″ tool now ready for Ops
Really pleased to announce that i2i now has the 4" tool ready for operations. Really excited about this new design that combines foam pig and mandrel pig design into into a flexible tool that can negotiate complex geometry in all conditions. Look forward to post some case study data in the next few month.
PPIM Exhibition Houston
PPIM exhibition has started with a bang with Loads of interest from all over the world. Thanks to Rosen for positioning the drinks bar right next to our booth. Everyone got a good look at the stand as they waited to be served.
New office space
Due to an increasing number of operations and tool build programme we have had to move offices again. Our new space is 3 times our current footprint, has dedicated meeting room and breakout spaces, and will allow us to better manage the increasing number of operations and dedicate a specific area for our R&D projects.
i2i joins PRCI
i2i joins PRCI this month. The team at i2i have a long history with PRCI and are pleased to be able to rejoin the research group under the i2i banner. The PRCI group leads the pipeline industry in terms of collaborative research and the team are looking forward to participating in research projects, sharing ideas and developing new technologies.
Training new personnel at Petrofac facility
Had a good week back in November training 3 new personnel joining the company. Due to the increase in workload the new team members will focus on field operations but will also help in the assembly of new tools when not on operations. Welcome aboard.
A great week in Aberdeen at PPSA
i2i had a great week in Aberdeen exhibiting our new Discovery Smart Utility Pigs and presenting a technical paper at the PPSA conference. A good turn out of 140 people and we had a chance to meet with a lot of great people and received significant interest from a number of pipeline Operators in the new inspection tools. Big thanks to Diane at PPSA for setting this up and look forward to participating again next year. As well as being invited to visit Aberdeen again in the coming weeks to meet with operators directly and discuss specific pipeline inspection jobs, i2i were informed…
A great sketch from the Cisco BIG awards night
On the BIG awards pitch night Cisco arranged for an artist to capture each of the pitches in sketch format. Great idea and great fun. Many thanks to Vickie & Samantha for passing this on.
Pipeline Pigging & Integrity Management Conference 2016
i2i have been selected to present a technical paper 'Sensors on everything - A new strategy for pipeline inspection' at the PPIM conference in Houston on 8-11th Feb 2016. The company will also be displaying their patented technology on booth T16, so if you are in Houston on those dates then come along and say hi. i2i will also be running demonstrations / trials in a number of test pipes in Houston so if your are interested in coming along to witness the tests please drop us an email.
Successful test of new ‘sensor cup’
Had a great few days testing our new 'sensor cup' in Scotland. The sensor cup is a standard pigging disk embedded with a number of sensors that allows for inspection of the pipeline. This is the first time that a full NDT inspection with eddy current sensors can be carried out with a standard PU pigging disk. Data on internal corrosion, cracking and P V T can all be from the PU disk. This style disk can be attached to any utility pig or even another inspection pig if required. We will be running this new system in an operational…
